Speaker Bios:

John Barnes - Partner, Advisory Services:  John is a partner who leads the Advisory Services Group in Grant Thornton’s Mid-Atlantic practice. He serves as a member of the firm’s IFRS task force. He has more than 15 years of combined experience in audit, tax, accounting, Sarbanes-Oxley and internal audit consulting services, including prior managerial positions in a national accounting firm and an internal audit consulting firm. John’s prior experiences include providing external audits and internal controls consulting within the COSO framework and coordinating such work with all of the Big Four accounting firms. He has managed complex multi-project engagements and the simultaneous execution of multiple engagements including progress reporting and deadline management. John also assists with the coordination of the firm’s advisory service offerings around IFRS. He is a frequent speaker on issues related to IFRS implementation.  Prior Sarbanes-Oxley and internal audit engagement experience includes providing services in all phases to not-for-profit organizations, multi-national manufacturing firms, a software developer, government contractors, and retailers.

Orus Dearman - Senior Manager, Advisory Services: Orus is a Senior Manager with Grant Thornton’s Advisory practice in McLean, Virginia serving the Mid-Atlantic region. Orus’ experience includes SAS 70 audits, SysTrust/WebTrust audits, FISMA compliance, IT control assessments, and physical/information security assessments. He has extensive experience conducting SAS 70 audits and IT controls assessments for clients both within the commercial and Federal industries. Orus has led IT controls assessments in accordance with COBIT and Federal guidelines within the United States and globally. He also specializes in physical security and information security assessments. Orus leads SAS 70 and SysTrust/WebTrust audits in the Mid-Atlantic area by guiding the team in engagement execution and consultation on technology attestation matters. He also assists management, in readiness reviews, in identifying and sufficiently documenting control objectives.
